A Bombay HC bench expressed its condolences over the passing away of Father Stan Swamy, an octogenarian activist and an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case. The Bombay bench was informed about the unfortunate incident by Dr Ian D'Souza, medical director of Holy Family Hospital, during an urgent hearing of a bail plea filed by Stan Swamy.

Advocate Mihir Desai, appearing for Swamy, moved an application of temporary bail challenging the order passed by a Special NIA court.

On July 3rd, the Bombay HC considering the deteriorating health of Swamy, directed to let him be hospitalized till 6th July (Hearing of bail plea).

The Bench expressed its shock and said With all humility at our command, we are sorry to hear this. We are sorry to know that despite the hospital's best efforts, Father Stan could not be saved. This is shocking news, and we have no words to express our condolences.

Earlier, Swamy refused to be hospitalized and requested his bail. However, upon Advocate Mihir Desai's counselling, Swamy agreed to get admitted to the Holy Family Hospital. Adv Desai said that he appreciates the efforts taken by the Court and the hospital to provide him with the best treatment but doesn't share the same view for the NIA and Taloja Jail for denying medical care. He further sought a judicial inquiry in Swamy's arrest and death.
