The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered FIRs against social media platform Twitter, News portal- The Wire, Independent Journalist Rana Ayyub and Saba Naqvi, Congress politicians Maskoor Usmani, Shama Mohamed and Salman Nizami and Alt news co-founder Mohammed Zubair for sharing a video of an elderly Muslim man being assaulted and beaten up by a group of men.

 

BACKGROUND

Recently, a video went viral showing an elderly Muslim Man named Abdul Samad being beaten up by three men and threatened with a knife. The knife was used to cut off his beard. The elderly man claimed that he was forced to chant Jai Shree Ram and Vande Mataram after getting abducted. However, UP police said that the attack had no communal angle, the attackers were Hindu and Muslim, and they attacked Abdul Samad over a personal dispute.

The FIR states that the above-mentioned accused shared the video intending to incite communal violence between the two communities.
