HOW CAN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN IN A CIVILIZED SOCIETY? - BOMBAY HC TO STATE

The Bombay HC - Justice Dipankar Datta asked the state to inform about the Oxygen leak tragedy in Nashik that demanded the lives of 22 people. How can something like this happen in a civilized society? The Court questioned this while hearing a PIL.

After hearing of the PIL, the Attorney General explained the report sent to the chief secretary of Nashik Municipality Authority. As per the preliminary report, a private company responsible for maintaining and filing the tank installed an oxygen tank in Dr Zakir Hussain hospital on a contract-based. There seemed to be oxygen pressure that leads to leakage. Oxygen pressure dropped to such a level that the supply of oxygen stopped. That continued for 1 hour 20 min meanwhile, the death occurred. There were 131 patients on oxygen, 16 critical and 15 on the ventilator.

The Bench asked the AG to submit reports of further developments.
