I AM NOT FULLY WOKE TO SAME-SEX RELATIONSHIP, A PROFESSIONAL WILL HELP ME UNDERSTAND SAME-SEX RELATIONSHIP BETTER - MADRAS HC

The Madras HC - Justice N Venkatesh remarked 'I am not fully woke on this aspect, help me understand the same-sex relationship better and will pave the way for my evolution.”

The Hon'ble judge made this remark after hearing a plea filed by the same-sex couple seeking protection. The judge had earlier asked the couple and their parents to better attend counselling by a psychologist to understand same-sex relationships better.

The counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners submitted that the petitioners are safely taken care of by the NGO, and they continue to talk with their parents regularly. The learned counsel requested this Court to issue certain guidelines to deal with cases of comparable nature in order that persons involved in same-sex relationships are treated with dignity and their safety is additionally ensured.

Justice N Venkatesh said there had been appreciable progress shown in this case. Evolution cannot take place overnight, and it requires continuous effort to bring in a change. Therefore, the Court directed the parents of the petitioners to undergo one more round of counselling. In addition, the request made by the counsel for the petitioner regarding the guidelines is concerned; I want to give myself some more time to churn. The words must come from my heart and not from my head. Therefore, I would request the psychologist to fix a convenient appointment for the same. I honestly feel that such a session with a professional will help me understand same-sex relationships better.
