KARNATAKA HIGH COURT ASKS 16 MOSQUES IF THEY WILL REFRAIN FROM USING LOUDSPEAKERS TILL THEY GET CONSENT UNDER NOISE POLLUTION RULES
The Karnataka High Court bench of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice N Sanjay Gowda sought an affidavit from 16 mosques on whether they would stop using loudspeakers until they obtain written permission in accordance with the Noise Pollution Rules, 2000.
The Karnataka HC bench was hearing a PIL by 32 residents of Icon apartment, situated in Bengaluru, over the illegal use of loudspeakers in religious places. The Management of the Masjid's Said that they have already taken the required consent or permission to use the loudspeaker. The bench said that the management would submit an affidavit on whether they are following the prescribed guideline provided by the government to avoid noise pollution.
The affidavit will specify if they have obtained a license as per the Pollution Control Board guidelines. It should also mention if the mosques would stop using loudspeakers if the license is not obtained.
