Nawazuddin Siddiqui Files A Civil Defamation Suit Against His Brother And Estranged Wife Before The Bombay HC
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has taken legal action against his brother and estranged wife by filing a civil defamation suit before the Bombay High Court. The actor has sought damages amounting to ₹100 crores in the suit. The case was heard by Justice RI Chagla The actor, represented by advocate Sunil Kumar, claimed that his brother Shamsuddin Siddiqui and estranged wife Anjana Pandey, also known as Zainab Siddiqui, made false allegations against him, which were misleading in nature.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui further submitted that his brother and wife should be permanently restrained from making any defamatory statements against him to the media or any other platform. In this regard, he requested the court to issue an injunction order against them. The actor also urged the court to direct his brother and estranged wife to withdraw or delete any existing defamatory comments. Additionally, he sought a public apology from them for the harm caused by the defamatory statements made against him.
According to Nawazuddin, his brother was responsible for managing his finances, including income tax returns, credit card payments, and more. He entrusted his brother with his cards, cheque books, and bank passwords for this purpose. However, his brother acted dishonestly and started cheating and defrauding him. Nawazuddin alleged that his brother claimed to be purchasing assets in Nawazuddin's name, but was actually purchasing them jointly.
When Nawazuddin confronted his brother about these purchases, his brother allegedly provoked his estranged wife to file baseless and false cases against Nawazuddin.
The petition alleged that Nawazuddin's brother and estranged wife had embezzled ₹21 crores. Additionally, the suit claimed that Nawazuddin's brother had surreptitiously recorded both formal and informal conversations through audio and video. Upon hiring a chartered accountant, Nawazuddin uncovered that his brother's mismanagement had led to unpaid dues to the government amounting to ₹37 crores.
