Recently the Union Health Minister in the Monsoon Session Parliament in Rajya Sabha claimed that no deaths took place due to lack of oxygen during the 2nd wave of the Pandemic.

The Union health ministry said that Health is a state subject, and the central government issued detailed guidelines to the Gates and Union territories regarding the same. No deaths due to covid have been reported in any of these states and UTs. The Ministry said on being questioned as to whether a large number of people died on roads and hospitals due to acute shortage of oxygen.

The union health minister Mansukh Mandvi dismissed the claim and said that even if there had been underreporting of the deaths, it was done by the state government and no union government.

Bharati Pravin Pawar - Mos (health) said that although no reports of concealing of deaths by states or UTs have been seen, some states have revised their figures based on the reconciliation of mortality data.
