Parliament's Session Commencing Today: Discussions on Parliament’s 75-year History And 4 Bills
A new parliamentary session is set to commence on Monday, and there is growing anticipation regarding potential surprises the government might unveil during the five-day sitting. The session will include discussions on Parliament's 75-year history and the consideration of four bills, including one concerning the appointment of election commissioners. The Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, raised the national flag at the new Parliament building on Sunday, suggesting an impending shift to this new facility during the session.
The government has scheduled an all-party meeting today to brief floor leaders from various political parties and seek their input before the session begins.
The timing of this session, while unusual, has generated curiosity among political circles. While the primary agenda includes a special discussion on Parliament's 75-year journey, the government also retains the authority to introduce new legislation or other items not initially on the agenda.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed the opposition's suspicions, suggesting that the government might have some "legislative grenades" ready to unveil. He remarked on the listed agenda, stating it appears to be "much ado about nothing" and could have waited until the winter session in November.
