On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled against a petition filed by an environmentalist seeking his appointment as President of India after removing Droupadi Murmu from the post.

It was declared scurrilous and an abuse of the Court's process by the Bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli. The Bench also directed the court registry not to entertain such petitions in the future.

In his plea, the petitioner alleged that he was not allowed to compete in the recent Presidential elections. He further insisted that he be heard. He gave an example of Sri Lanka and Russia and said the President's role needs to be redefined.

The Bench dismissed the petition on the ground of being frivolous and an abuse of the process of the Court.
