RAJ KUNDRA, AN ACCUSED IN THE 2021 PORN FILM CASE GRANTED BAIL BY THE MUMBAI COURT
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Esplanade Mumbai Court granted bail to Raj Kundra, an accused in the recent 2021 porn film case. Raj Kundra moved to the Court seeking bail on the ground of an incomplete investigation.
Advocate Niranjan Mundargi appearing for Raj Kundra, submitted that the Mumbai Police filed a detailed supplementary charge-sheet against four people arraigning them as accused, including Kundra. Adv Mundargi argued that the offence of cheating does not seem to be made out in the charge sheet. He further argued that if cheating is kept aside, other offences are punishable with up to 5 years of imprisonment. Moreover, the supplementary charge sheet did not contain a single allegation stating the victim's interaction with Kundrafor filming the obscene videos.
The Court granted bail to Kundra upon furnishing a bail bond of ₹50,000.
BACKGROUND
- Kundra was presented before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Esplanade;
- Kundra remained in police custody till 27th July;
- Kundra's bail application was rejected on 28th July by the Magistrate;
- Thereafter, he approached the Sessions Court seeking bail;
- The Sessions Court issued notice to the police;
- The Police filed a reply opposing his bail;
Recently, after filing the charge sheet, the accused withdrew his application from the sessions court and filed a fresh bail application before the Magistrate.
