REMARKS MISREPORTED! WE HAVE THE HIGHEST RESPECT FOR WOMEN - CJI BOBDE

CJI SA Bobde reacted to the controversies that arose last week, first regarding the oral observation made by CJI Bobde during a bail hearing in a rape case. The Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said the court was not suggesting the accused to marry the rape victim but was seeking his view. Second, in another hearing regarding a live-in relationship where the woman accused the partner of failing to marry her despite raping her. CJI questioned the allegations of rape since there is a live-in relationship as a married couple.

The Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said, “As an institution, we have the highest respect for women”, and the onus is on the bar to protect the judiciary; we don’t need any other mechanism to deal with people trying to tarnish the image of the judiciary. He further blamed the media for misreporting everything said by the Bench of the Apex Court.
