SC ALLOWED PROTECTION TO COUPLE WHO WERE DENIED PROTECTION BY THE PUNJAB AND HARYANA HC

The SC was recently hearing an appeal against the Punjab and Haryana HC's order, where the P&H HC refused to grant protection to a couple in live-in-relation while observing that live-in-relation is morally and socially not acceptable and therefore no protection order can be passed.

The Hon'ble SC bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Ajay Rastogi granted liberty to the couple to present their representation to the superintendent of Police.

The Bench further remarked, "Needless to say that since it concerns life and liberty, the Police is required to act expeditiously in accordance with the law, including the grant of any protection to the petitioners given the fear/ threats, uninfluenced by the observations of the High Court".
