SC BENCH DISMISSED SAYED WASIM RIZVI'S WRIT PETITION TO REMOVE 26 VERSES OF THE QURAN
13th April 2021
An SC bench headed by Justice RF Nariman dismissed Sayed Wasim Rizvi’s writ petition to remove 26 verses of the Quran, which allegedly preaches non-violence. The Bench also imposed Rs 50,000 as a cost.
Justice RF Nariman asked, "Are you seriously pressing the petition"? This is an absolutely frivolous writ petition”.
The plea states that Islam's basic tenets are equity, forgiveness, tolerance and equality. However, due to the interpretation of 26 verses, Islam is drifting away from its basic tenets. Nowadays, it is identified as fundamentalism, extremism and terrorism. There was an argument on the genuineness of some verses that the Caliphs made a mistake in compiling the Holy Quran.
Why half of the Quran promotes positivity and the other half negativity? Any dictates of religion that overlap the laws of the country should not prevail. The Former UP Shia Waqf Board chairman's plea further states that Muslim Madrasas have been teaching young children the Holy Quran, including 26 verses. It is a poison in the minds of young children, which leads to a radical mindset at an early age, and they start hating other religions. The wrong message of Allah has been filed in the name of Islam.
