SC DECLINE TO INTERFERE IN THE CENTRAL VISTA REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
7th May 2021
A Supreme Court bench Comprising Justices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari declined to interfere in the Central Vista Redevelopment project considering that the Delhi HC had already seized the issue. The Delhi HC listed the matter on 17th May.
The order was passed after hearing a PIL seeking to seek suspension of construction or any other activity concerning the Central Vista Redevelopment Projects in the wake of Covid 19 Pandemic to protect the life of workers involved in the project. The Petition contended that the project has super spreading potential and is nowhere equated to essential work. Adv Siddharth Luthra appearing for the petitioner, prayed interim suspension of the construction work at the site in the wake of the second wave. Counsel appearing for the petitioner argued that adjourning the matter to May 17 would defeat the emergency sought by the petitioner in the petition.
However, after declining to interfere with the project, the SC bench asked the HC to consider the PIL for an early hearing before the Chief justice of Delhi HC.
