SC ORDERED A MAN TO UNDERGO CIVIL IMPRISONMENT AFTER HE FAILED TO PAY 2.6 CR TO HIS ESTRANGED WIFE

Recently, on 22nd March, the SC ordered a man to undergo civil imprisonment up to 3 months after he failed to pay 2.6 cr to his wife as maintenance. The SC passed this order after giving a final chance to the man on 19th February. The court gave a final opportunity and directed to pay maintenance, along with monthly maintenance of Rs 1.75 lakhs. But when the matter was heard on 22nd, it was contended by the wife that the Apex Court's earlier order is yet to be complied with; by the man, and only partial payment has been made.

Therefore, the Apex Court ordered him to serve three months for contempt of Court.
