The Madras HC was recently hearing a plea moved by a woman whose son was denied school admission in 11th standard in a Thanjavur based school due to his indiscipline in the past.

The Court observed that the school should not turn away students citing indiscipline as it would neglect a school's responsibility to ensure all-around development of students. Schools should focus on this responsibility rather than sending undisciplined students away as a quick fix.

Advocates appearing for the complainant argued that there had been no specific allegations of misconduct against the son. Therefore the school does not have the basis of sending him out of school at such a crucial stage of schooling. The Petitioner also submitted an affidavit of his son's future good behaviour.

The Court accepted the Petitioner's affidavit and allowed the petition. Further, they directed the school to admit the son within a week after considering the Petitioner's affidavit.
