Recently the Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice PD Audikesavalu refused to pass any direction in a Public Interest Litigation seeking to state astrology as unscientific. However, the bench said that the state should have evolved a mechanism to assure that citizens are well informed and evil practices are given up.

While refusing to pass any direction, the Court said that it is not appropriate for the court to pass any direction regarding the matter. "Even science in such regard is not complete or absolute." There are even several unanswered questions about Einstein's theory of relativity. There is still no clue as to the formation of the universe. "despite space and time being seen on the same platform and the latest telescopes having taken virtual vision to probably the earliest millionth of the approximately 13.8 billion-year lifetime of the known universe".

The Court further appreciated the petitioner for orienting citizens to more scientific knowledge and discard superstitious beliefs. However, some independence to people who believe and ponder over the same.
