Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Challenging Scientific Theories Of Darwin And Einstein
The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that challenged the scientific theories of Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Albert Einstein's mass–energy equivalence equation (E=MC²). The PIL, filed by Raj Kumar, was heard by a Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia.
Kumar contended that these widely accepted scientific theories were incorrect and had caused harm to thousands of people, urging the court to halt their teaching in educational institutions.
In response, the Court advised the petitioner to either seek further education or develop an alternative theory. It emphasized that individuals cannot be compelled to unlearn established scientific theories and subsequently dismissed the PIL.
The Court's stance was clear: "Then you go re-educate yourself or make your own theory. We cannot compel anyone to unlearn. Dismissed."
Interestingly, just before this PIL, advocate Raghav Awasthi appeared in another PIL, which sought the formulation of a national traffic management policy. Justice Kaul quickly responded by suggesting, "We should impose costs on such PILs."
In response to this, Awasthi chose to withdraw the PIL and expressed intentions to approach the High Court instead.
This Supreme Court decision reaffirms the importance of established scientific theories in the educational curriculum, emphasizing the need for scientific understanding and progression in the field of education.
