THE DELHI HC GRANTS PROTECTION TO MUSLIM-VALMIKI COUPLE

The Delhi HC - Justice Anu Malhotra granted police protection to an interfaith couple who witnessed a mob attack on 20th March. The Hon'ble Court also sought the status report from the Delhi Police.

The Delhi HC granted protection after the couple, and the boy's family approached the appropriate Court. The petitioner nos.1 & 2 submitted that they have recently got married on 17.03.2021. The girl belonged to the Muslim Community, and the boy belongs to the Valmiki Community. The girl converted herself to Hinduism of her own free will without any coercion. Further, CCTV footage showed a mob entering into a narrow lane, breaking, pelting stones and banging on doors to threaten the boy and his family. The neighbours heard abusive castes remarks and threats to kill the boy's family. The petitioner further sought that the incident is investigated under the SC/ST Act.

The Delhi Police informed that provisions of offences under the SC/ST Act had been added to the FIR. Two platoons of the police force and two pickets have been posted before the Couple's house.
