THE TRIPURA HC TOOK SUO MOTO OF AN INCIDENT WHERE A YOUNG LADY COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER AN INTIMATE VIDEO SHOWN TO THE PUBLIC

The Tripura HC took Suo Motu of a recent incident on which a news item in print and electronic media was published. According to the reports, a married young lady's intimate video with a man was shown to the public. Unable to bear the humiliation, the young lady committed suicide by consuming poison.

The HC remarked, "As if this much humiliation was not enough, going by the news reports, what followed was the grossest possible violation of human rights and extreme humiliation".

The HC decided to gather facts and information about the case. The Court further said that if a fraction of what is reported is true, it will shock the conscience of any citizen.  The Court made the various government authorities respondents in this case.  And directed the respondents to submit the status of the inquiry and photographs or video footages.
