Case: Umar Khalid v. State

Umar Khalid was granted interim bail for 7 days about the February 2020 Delhi riots case.

Khalid was granted a reprieve to attend his sister's wedding by Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, who reserved the order on December 7.

Khalid will be released from prison on December 23 following which on December 30, he would surrender.

Khalid was arrested in 2020 and has spent over two years in prison. The bail sought by him is to attend his sister’s wedding.

Senior Advocate Trideep Pais argued on the last occasion that Khalid would be willing to comply with any conditions imposed by the court, including revealing his location. They cited several UAPA cases that have been granted interim bail subject to certain conditions.

Additionally, Pais suggested Khalid be subjected to the same conditions as Siddique Kappan, as imposed by the Supreme Court while granting him interim bail. In response to Pais' concern that Khalid would spread misinformation and cause unrest by speaking, Khalid had vowed not to give interviews.
