YATI NARSINGHANAND, ACCUSED OF DELIVERING HATE SPEECH, GRANTED BAIL BY SESSIONS COURT

District and Sessions Judge Bharat Bhushan Pandey of the Haridwar Sessions Court granted bail to Yati Narsinghanand, accused of giving a hate speech against Muslims at a Dharam Sansad event held in 2021. 

The court ordered the accused to undertake before the Magistrate that he will not give or be part of any hate speech any disturbing speech against any community. The bail application was allowed subject to furnishing two sureties of ₹50,000 and a personal bond of the same amount.

In January 2016, Narsinghanand was arrested and booked under Sections 295 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 509 (intending to insult the modesty of any woman) and 153A ((promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier, the Magistrate rejected his bail plea. Simultaneously, the Apex Court is separately hearing a plea seeking a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the hate speech at the Dharam Sansad.
