The SC was hearing a petition seeking direction to provided door-to-door Covid 19 vaccination to the weaker section of the society. Such as the elderly, differently abelded and any other who are unable to register their names through Cowin for vaccines.

Adv Manju Jetley on behalf of the Youth Bar Association of India moved the Petition. She submitted that this would not only help the vulnerable groups but also minimize the risk of being infected after reaching the vaccination centre. India being a Welfare State should accept its liability towards its citizens and serve the same. Covid 19 vaccine is a life-saving drug and should be included in the National List of Essential Medicines. The PAN India shall be directed to create and operate a 24/7 toll-free port for the suppressed part of our society, who are unable to approach the vaccination centres for various reasons. Moreover, mobile vans, vehicles and vaccine booths can also be allowed for the vulnerable including people living in rural areas.

The Petition sought the issuance of guidelines for the immediate effect of functioning of the door-to-door vaccines and to establish 24/7 portals through which people may register themselves.
