Please before Pune court against Eknath Shinde accusing of filing false affidavits to the State Election Commission
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been accused of filing false affidavits to the State Election Commission during the State Assembly Elections in 2014 and 2019.
The plea has been filed by social activists Dr. Abhishek Haridas and Abhijit Khedkar.
According to the plea filed through advocate Sameer Shaikh, Shinde deliberately failed to reveal the unit of equity shares he or his family members owned in the election nomination affidavit filed before the State Election Commission in 2014.
Other discrepancies include:
-
A car that was showed of INR 8 Lakhs in the 2014 affidavit and INR 96,720 in the 2019 affidavit.
-
In the 2014 affidavit, a Scorpio worth INR 11 Lakhs was shown, however, the same was revised to INR 1.33 Lakhs in the 2029 affidavit.
-
In the 2014 affidavit, no farmland was owned, however, complainants found two farmlands in Thane.
The above list contains a few of the discrepancies in the two affidavits.
Additionally, the complainants explained that since filing proper affidavits before the Commission is not within the scope of a public representative's obligations, there is no need to obtain sanction from the authorities to prosecute Shinde.
Against this backdrop, the complainants requested that the court take cognizance of the matter and initiate criminal proceedings against Shinde under the Indian Penal Code.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate TM Ahmed will be verifying the claims made by the complainants before summoning Shinde.
