Sapna Gill, Social Media Influencer, Accused Of Assaulting Indian Cricketer Prithvi Shaw: Granted Bail By A Mumbai Court
Sapna Gill, a social media influencer, along with three others, was accused of assaulting Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his companions outside Hotel Sahara Star in Santacruz, Mumbai. However, a Mumbai court granted bail to the accused on Monday, following an order passed by a Magistrate court in Andheri.
On February 15, Shaw and his friends were having dinner at the café in Hotel Sahara Star when Gill and her associates allegedly abused and attacked them, damaging their car in the process. Gill and the others were arrested by the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai on February 17, based on the complaint lodged by Shaw and his friends.
According to Shaw's statement, Gill and Thakur initially took selfies with him but then proceeded to harass him for additional photographs. When Shaw declined their request, the duo allegedly behaved rudely toward him.
Later at 4 am, when Shaw and his friend were departing the hotel, Gill and a group of others arrived on motorcycles and in a car and started verbally abusing them. One of the accused used a bat to smash the car's rear windshield, as per the complaint filed. Gill then reportedly threatened Shaw with a false complaint and demanded a sum of ₹50,000 in exchange for dropping the matter.
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged against Gill, Thakur, and other individuals on the grounds of rioting, extortion, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), based on Shaw's complaint. After reviewing the video footage of the incident, the Oshiwara police charged the accused with Section 387 of the IPC, which pertains to inducing fear of death or serious harm in order to commit extortion. This offense carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
