The Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to pay compensation of ₹2,000 to a man who was not given ₹1 change for a bus ride.

Ramesh Naik had paid ₹30 to the bus conductor for a ticket priced at ₹29, and the conductor did not return the ₹1 change. Naik filed a complaint seeking ₹15,000 in compensation, but the Commission awarded partial relief of ₹2,000 along with ₹1,000 for court fees after considering the case's facts.

The Commission directed that if the compensation was not paid within 45 days, an annual interest rate of ₹6,000 would be imposed. BMTC argued that the incident was minor and denied the allegation of poor service, requesting that the complaint be dismissed.

Nevertheless, the Commission emphasized that the consumer's right was at stake, and the dispute should not be considered insignificant. The complainant is thus entitled to the relief of a refund.
