Law has been one of the most promising careers in India, and with the growing fad of professional fields, the number of students aspiring to be one has been on the rise. When we think of law preparation, CLAT is the first one to strike us. CLAT course duration can be as long as any other competitive exam. Students start preparing alongside their HSC exams. However, there are lots of Law entrance exams which are accepted by top law colleges in india.

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)

Conducted by – There are a number of CLAT colleges in India. The consortium comprises 22 participating NLUs, and the exam is conducted at a national level.

Acceptance - accepted by the top law schools for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including NLUs.

Subjects covered - English including Comprehension, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Quantitative Techniques, Legal Reasoning, and, Logical Reasoning.

Total questions/marks – 150

Duration- 2hrs

Eligibility criteria- the educational qualifications required are –

CLAT colleges in India require candidates to mandatorily clear Class 12th with a minimum of 45% marks. It is applicable for all the candidates from General/ OBC, i.e. Other Backward Class / PwD, i.e. Person with Disability / NRI, i.e. Non-Resident Indian / PIO, i.e. Person of Indian Origin / OCI, i.e. Overseas Citizen of India category.

Candidates must clear Class 12th with a minimum of 40% marks, and it is only applicable to candidates from the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe category to be eligible for admission in CLAT colleges in India.

Candidates eligible for admission in CLAT colleges in India must appear for their Class 12th board examinations are also eligible to apply for CLAT 2020 examination. However, it is mandatory for them to produce proof of passing Class 12th at the time of admission. The admission of any candidates who fail to produce the evidence of passing shall be forfeited.

Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

Conducted by - the Law School Admission Council (LSAC)

Acceptance - accepted by more than 85 law colleges in India.

Subjects covered - Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning 1 & 2, Reading Comprehension and Variable section.

Total questions/marks – 150

Duration- 2hrs and 20 mins

Eligibility criteria- the educational qualifications required are 

Minimum 45% in class XII for candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/ (Specially Abled Persons) Categories.

Minimum 40% in class XII for candidates belonging to SC/ST category.

Students awaiting their class XII results can also appear for the LSAT.

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)

Conducted by - the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD)

Acceptance - the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD)

Subjects covered - English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning, and, Mathematics

Total questions/marks – 150

Duration- 1 hr 30 mins

Eligibility criteria – the educational qualification to appear for AILET is-

A candidate who has cleared SSC or HSC examination or any equivalent with at least 50 per cent.

Candidates who are appearing for the following qualifying exams are also eligible - 

Symbiosis Law Aptitude Test (SLAT) 

Conducted by - SIU Pune - Symbiosis International (Deemed University)

Acceptance - Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune, SLS Hyderabad, SLS Nagpur and, SLS Noida.

Subjects covered - General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension.

Total questions/marks – 150

Duration- 1 hr 30 mins

Eligibility criteria - the educational qualification to appear for SLAT is –

A minimum mark required to qualify for the exam is 45% for the general category or 40% for SC/ST category.

Delhi University LLB Entrance Exam (DU LLB)

Conducted by - Delhi University

Acceptance – Delhi University Campus Law Centre, Law Centre - I and Law Centre - II. 

Subjects covered - English including Comprehension, Analytical Ability, Legal Awareness and Aptitude, and General Knowledge. 

Total questions/marks – 100 questions/ 400 marks

Duration- 2 hours

Eligibility criteria - the educational qualification to appear for DU LLB is –

General Category: Candidates holding a graduation/ post-graduation degree from Delhi University or any other recognized Indian/foreign university with at least 50% aggregate marks.

OBC Category: Candidates passing graduation/ post-graduation from a recognized university with at least 45% aggregate marks.

SC/ST Category: Candidates passing graduation/post-graduation from a recognized university with at least 40% aggregate marks.

CW Category: Candidates who come under widows/ wards of veterans/serving personnel (CW) category are given a 5% marks relaxation, which means they must have obtained at least 45% aggregate marks in their qualifying degree.

PH Category: Candidates holding a graduation/ post-graduation degree from a recognized institute or university and minimum marks secured should be at least 45% marks in aggregate.

Aligarh Muslim University LLB Entrance Exam (AMU LLB)

Conducted by – Aligarh Muslim University

Acceptance - Aligarh Muslim University

Subjects covered – general English, current affairs, reasoning, aptitude, etc.

Total questions/marks – 100

Duration- 1 hour 30 mins 

Eligibility criteria

A candidate must pass Class 12th or equivalent examination with an aggregate of not less than 50% of the total marks.

Bridge Course (for Graduates of Deeni Madaris) from AMU with 50% marks in aggregate

Law Admission Test (LAT)

Conducted by - Allahabad University

Acceptance - Allahabad University

Subjects covered - Language Comprehension General Awareness and current affairs Reasoning and Mental Ability and Legal Aptitude.

Duration- 2 hours

Eligibility criteria

Candidates must have completed their graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university. 

The candidate must have scored at least 45% in the qualifying degree for the general category, 42% for the OBC category and at least 40% for SC/ST category. 

A candidate appearing for the final year exam of their graduation degree are also eligible for applying for LAT. However, their eligibility will only be considered if they submit the proof of qualifying for the degree at the time of final admissions. 

Common Entrance Test by Gov. of Maharashtra (MH CET)

Conducted by- Directorate of Higher Education, Maharashtra, the Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) Maharashtra

Acceptance - 120 law colleges in Maharashtra

Subjects covered - English, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, General Knowledge including Current Affairs, Mathematical Aptitude and, Legal Aptitude. 

Total questions/marks – 150

Duration- 2 hours

Eligibility criteria – educational qualifications required for MHcet are –

A candidate should be an Indian citizen. 

He must pass the SSC/ HSC/ Intermediate Examination from any recognized institution under the national board of education or the state board. 

He must have secured 45% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam.

If Maharashtra state belongs to the SC/ ST category, then the minimum marks needed are 40% according to relaxation in the aggregate score.

According to the age criteria, candidates should be at least 20 years old at the time of admission. However, in the case of candidates from SC/ ST/ OBC categories from the state of Maharashtra, the minimum age limit is 22 years at the time of admission.

Panjab University Undergraduate Law Exam (PU UGLAW)

Conducted by - Panjab University

Acceptance - Panjab University

Subjects covered - general knowledge, current affairs, mental ability, legal aptitude, English language.

Total questions/marks – 100

Duration- 1 hr 30 mins

Eligibility criteria

A candidate who appears or has passed for Class 12th qualifying examination or equivalent from the CBSE, i.e. Central Board of Secondary Education or any other state/ national board of education in India.

According to the BCI guidelines, there is no upper or lower age limit for admissions to UG law courses.

Telangana State Law Common Entrance Test (TS LAWCET)

Conducted by -  Osmania University, Hyderabad on behalf of Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Hyderabad.

Acceptance - Telangana state universities and colleges

Subjects covered - General Knowledge and Mental Ability, Current Affairs, Aptitude for the Study of Law.

Total questions/marks – 120

Duration- 1hr 30 mins

Eligibility criteria- educational qualifications required for TSLAWCET are –

A candidate who passed the HSC or equivalent examination from any national level board of education or the Telangana state education board is eligible to apply for the exam.

He should have scored at least 45% in the qualifying examination.

However, if a candidate belongs to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, the minimum qualifying marks are at least 40%.
