HC WILL PASS ITS ORDER ON FACEBOOK/WHATSAPP CHALLENGING THE COMPETITION
22nd April 2021
On April 22nd, the Delhi High Court will pass its order on Facebook and WhatsApp pleas, challenging the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to investigate the new privacy policy of messaging apps.
The single bench comprising Justice Navin Chawla restored the arguments of the counsel that have been concluded. Two pleas were heard by the court, which the CCI filed to probe the investigation of the new privacy policy of Facebook/WhatsApp to be completed within 60 days.
Since the Supreme Court heard the matter, Facebook /WhatsApp should make no essential probe.
Advocate Harish Salve in his statement said that the matter is pending before the court, and this is the headline of achievement by CCI and Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi from the petitioner's side said that the proceedings should be kept in suspension.
Additional Solicitor General Aman Lekhi, representing CCI, said that the matter is not related to the privacy policy, but more to the access of the data and the competition will deal with the metadata. This issue is completely competition-based, as understanding consumer behaviour and preferences will shoulder targeted advertising.
